I don’t want the demotion, I want my job back

Pari (27) was working in a Fashion Garments Factory in Gazipur as Sewing Operator and living in a slum of Gazipur. She came from Noakhali, widow and with a daughter.

At the beginning her wage was 6,800 BDT, but sometimes she was able to get even 10,800 taka per month including overtimes. However despite this it was difficult for her to survive.

In the holidays of Eid-ul-Fitr, Pari faced a severe injury due to the falling of the ceiling fan in her residence. She had to be admitted to a hospital in her locality due to this accident where she continues to seek treatment.

After Eid, Pari went back to her work. Upon observing her physical condition, the factory management obliged her to take 15 days general leave and took her ID card, Attendance card and medical reports from her. After 15 days she was not allowed to return to her duty as Operator. Instead the factory management offered her to join as helper instead of operator. She is planning to undertake some more treatment to be fully rehabilitated to regain her job position.
