I need a job as soon as possible
Aurona (31) was an operator at a Garments’ factory, where she worked one year. Currently she is without employment. She is a member of Dowel Workers’ Group in Mirpur, Dhaka. Aurona was 5 months pregnant when she first requested maternity leave to the management of the garment factory in which she worked. The production manager of her factory refused to give both maternity leave and benefits. The aforementioned manager even demanded that she continued working until the last day before delivery. He also advised her to resign if unable to continue working.
After several failed dialogues with hermanagement she felt defeated and resigned while in the 7th month of her pregnancy as she was unable to meet the set daily targets. Her management didn’t provide her with any assurance regarding the provision of benefits nor compensation. Furthermore, the factory management went as far as to pay her only half of the month’s salary for the last month she worked for them.
In August Aurona gave birth to a son. Her husband abandoned her. Now she is struggling to make it through each day, but she hopes that through the Workers’ Group members she will be able to find soon another job.
