Self-confident for the future
Shampa, from Tala Upazila, Satkhira District, is the youngest daughter among her five brothers and sisters. She was dreaming to become a school teacher and with this vision she completed her Master degree. Suddenly her father died and she fallen into darkness, because her father was the only one supporting her to become independent in her life. At the same time, her dream broken. All her brothers and sisters got married and started to live a separate life, and none of them was taking care of her and her mother. She tried to manage a job near her village, but she couldn’t find any suitable and secured one. Their level of poverty was increasing as well as their sufferings. One day she heard about the training opportunity and job placement in the Ready Made Garment (RMG) sector under the Jukta Hoe Mukta (JHM) project from one of the Community Development Organizer (CDO) working for DALIT in Tala Upazila. She immediately thought this could be a good chance for her, but some of her neighbours discouraged her to get into the RMG sector, as she is educated and she could have better opportunities in other sectors. Shampa thought: “I tried a lot for a job, but I couldn’t find, for this reason I should take this opportunity. As I am educated, in future I will have more potentialities and possibilities compared to others to have promotions in the workplace”. She finally left for the training at the VTC with a hope to work in the RMG sector in a managerial position. In her words…
